Suspension
Travel is not everything in the life of a good suspension, but the fact is you are not going to get over a bump very smoothly without a decent amount of travel. Most new suspensions have 10-13 inches of travel. The main problems with crossing rough terrain while maintaining speed is keeping the rear of the sled stable, and in contact with the snow for power transfer to the snow in a way that also allows for maximum travel.

Pre-load, and ride sag are not interchangeable terms but on most suspension systems pre-load is set to arrive at the proper ride sag. The only real reason for setting spring pre-load is to get proper ride sag.

Pre-load The difference between free length, and installed length of the spring.

Ride sag When the weight of the sled is placed on its suspension the suspension will sag down, the amount the sled moves downward from the suspension fully extended is ride sag.

Why should you care about ride sag? When you ride your sled you are going to hit as many positive bumps as negative. Too much sag leaves too little travel to deal with positive bumps. Too little sag and your track will not be able to follow down into the negative bumps, as it should. The "Golden Rule" for ride sag: Set ride sag at 1/3 total suspension travel. Never guess always measure. Never assume the sled is set up from the dealer to fit your needs.

Hartman Inc. has been working with Works Performance Shocks for many years to meet the needs of the Yamaha snowmobile owners. Their work together has produced a lightweight aluminum body shock with spherical joints in the mounting points to reduce friction and binding, duel-rate adjustable springs, a shock valve rate designed for keeping your power/track on the snow, and you in control. A full set of the factory shocks is 24lbs. A full set of our Works Performance shocks is 19lbs, and you're getting far superior shocks. Both front shocks with adapter kit is $455.00. For the slide frame suspension $345.00 for the front, and $355.00 for the rear. These shocks do make a noticeable improvement in control not to mention lightweight with far superior performance. If you buy a complete set of all shocks the cost is discounted to $1065.00.

The pictures featured below are the extra duty rear shock for our big, tall, and aggressive riders in the Works standard color of blue (all shocks are received in blue), and a standard duty set that a customer had powder coated red to match his sled.

750cc big bore puts you in the neighborhood of 86 ft/lb. torque and 140hp at 8600-RPM with pipes, reeds, trail porting, and boost bottle kit.

Where your see the most improvement is not at peak but in the bottom-end, increases of 30-40ft/lb. torque and 40-50hp at 6000-RPM. (Parts only) $430.00

Our custom porting and head work adds 10-14hp and 6-9 ft lbs or torque to your sled with "stock" reliability. Through extensive testing on our shop sleds, we have found a balance between high horsepower and reliability. All porting is hand profiled and headwork is CNC machine cut to maintain proper squish band and volume. Beware of just flat cutting the head to increase compression. You have to re-cut the squish band also. We have recognized detonation problems through testing, caused by not enough clearance at the outer edges of the squish band if it is not re-cut. Porting starts at $650.00
